hmm: me and chicken pox

I have been quarantined in the bedroom for almost 5 days now. Can you believe I caught the chicken pox virus?

The hardest thing wasnt the itch or the aching- I had to keep myself away from lil' muachi.

I kept convincing myself that this is a good thing. I get to sleep in. I get to catch up on my shows, read a book in peace, complete the photo album. But I realised once you are a mum, all you really want to do is to be able to hold your little one when she smiles and reaches out for you. It has been really tough for me to give her blowing kisses and walk away.

I should have taken the chicken pox jab. For those of you who havent, please do. I feel like a pimply teenager now. That is my advice for this blog - take the jab.

Once lil' muachi is 1 years up, you can be sure that she will be taking that jab.

If you ever catch it, just remember you are doing your kid a favor by staying away. I also read that people around you can still take the jab to avoid catching the virus from you.

2 more days to go..... pop you blardy pox..

Chomps: Restaurant Hao Wei Dao

We went to Restaurant Hao Wei Dao last night. We only ever go there when GOTH wants his fried rice. I gotta admit, they do a wicked fried rice dish there. Too bad I forgot to take a pic.

This restaurant serves a variety of Asian and Western food. It was fairly empty when we went.

They have decent baby chairs and their dining chairs comes with sofa at one side of the table. So you can comfortably place your bub there too.

Lil' muachi had a lot of fun there as it was not noisy and she got a cucumber from mummy to keep her occupied.

As with the other rows of shops in Taman Desa, there's a lot of stairs at the sidewalk leading up to this restaurant. If you have a stroller, just use the tar road to reach the restaurant.

The waiters there were very accommodating. Good thing too as I am sure GOTH will be having his fried rice cravings again.

Places: LCCT Malaysia

The Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) in Malaysia is definitely a no-frills airport.

The upside is you pushing a baby stroller at the airport is nothing compared to those juggling their multiple travelling bags. True Fact: At LCCT, everyone maximizes their carry-ons.

Another good thing is that baby strollers are usually considered as a carry-on for airlines but one which you can push right up to the entrance of the airplane and they'll store it for you thereafter.Superb.

Problem is if you are a departing passenger at LCCT, it would seem like it is a standing room only kind of place.

Entering LCCT is like entering a foreign country with people looking like they are squatting at the sides of the building. They are in actual fact resting on these railings on the floor. The only proper seat available is the one Ronald McD is sitting on.

But as you walk towards The Coffee Bean (right side of the building), rows of chairs will come into view. I have no idea why it is only available at Arrivals; but there they were. Indoor and outdoor.

So remember, if you need to sit down, go towards Arrivals.

On the baby changing room, there is really nothing much to say. As any Malaysian public toilets; you would want to go in, do your thing and get the hell out in the shortest possible time span.

The baby changing room is located in front of the Female loo. This is located at the left side of the airport. If I'm not mistaken, it's near Old town white coffee (departure area)

There is really nothing much in there. But it functions and there is privacy.

Like I said before, this is a no-frills airport. So my best advice is to be as prepared as you can with your bub before you fly.

hmm: Headgear

I never understood why some parents wear headbands on their baby daughters. Especially if their daughters looked like boys. Even if she is dressed from head to toe in flowers and carrying a flower, she will still look like a boy. But now she will be a boy in drags.

Regardless, I thought I'll jump on the wagon and give it a shot. Obviously, I got creative and used things I own.

Honestly, just rummage through your cupboard and wardrobe. As long as it looks like a headband and comfortably stays on her head, you got yourself a winner.

hmm: Attachment to the little bub

Is it me? Or is it because I am a mother? I feel very attached to lil' muachi somehow. I have this profound love which came out of nowhere for this little thing that suddenly appeared in my life after 9 months of waddling around.

Quoting GOTH, she is like a little human being now. She has definitely moved on from the worm phase.

Obviously at this stage we are still absolutely clueless on what kind of a person she will be. Is she going to be funny? Will she be smart? Will she be artistic? Will she buy her mother a beach house?

We don't know.

But this I know for sure now, parents do love you, no matter what. It started when you were a little no one....

The wonder that is Sinupret_Flu remedy

Lil' muachi had another round of flu recently. This time it was worse than the first. Her blocked nose would not clear. And she had this annoying phlegm that would not go away.

I tried the usual cough and flu syrup prescribed by the Dr but she wouldn't get any better. She woke up a few times in the night. She was agitated. I was seriously at a lost until my sis-in-law introduced this medication called Sinupret.

Sinupret is a herbal supplement which is commonly used for coughs, colds, sinus infections and allergies.

It worked wonders for Lil' muachi.

Unfortunately, it is not available in Malaysia. I read that it's very popular in Europe and has started gaining interest in US. It is sold in Singapore should you wish to get your hands on this little miracle worker.

LMM Baby Steps:
1) Find a way to get hold of Sinupret
2) Read the instructions properly eg specified amount to specific ages
3) Pour syrup onto the cap like cup (which comes with measurements)
4) Use syringe to draw the syrup
5) Slowly push the syrup out to bub's mouth bit by bit, between pauses to ensure that bub has swallowed

LMM Advice: If your bub has phlegm and blocked nose, it is good to give her a hot bath. It loosens mucus and it is rather soothing I think. Lil' muachi was not too fussed on Sinupret. It is sweet and does not taste like medication.
Hokkien Corner: Sinupret costs around S$18. Not expensive at all for something that is pretty effective. I would grab one to store in case of emergency. With the weather and viruses that are going around these days, you'll never know when you'll need it.

Silicon Shield

I used to wonder about the little thing shown in the picture. Someone gave it to me before lil' muachi came out and I remember staring at it for a very long time.

I noticed it in one of the pharmacies one day. And as it was still in its packaging, I finally learnt what it was.

This is a nipple shield - to be used during breastfeeding. It's made of silicon. It is flexible and soft.

I thought it was meant only for cracked nipples. But this little invention does more than that.
1) It is also useful if you have small or inverted nipples
2) To make it easier for weak or sick babies to latch on
3) For babies used to the bottle teat (if bub started first on bottle), this helps encourage them to breastfeed

Hokkien Corner: As wonderful as this is, I would suggest not purchasing it until needed. Not everyone requires it. So wait and see.
